Prepare yourself and your SUP |
After you’ve taken the SUP & paddle out of the compartment, remove the paddle from the holder. |
Adjust the paddle to your size – it should be about 20 cm above your height. |
Push the fin in the direction of the arrow into the guide until it clicks. |
If necessary, attach the leash (safety line) to your ankle before entering the water. |
Carry the board by the handle. Handle your SUP carefully and don’t drag it across the sand or ground. Be careful not to trip over the safety line. |
Wearing a life jacket and weatherproof clothing like a neoprene suit or UV-protective clothing protects your health. |
For longer trips, you should have something to drink and don’t forget a snack and sunscreen. |
|
Before you go into the water |
Pay attention to information and warnings at the surf spot. |
Get to know your surf spot. This includes: |
Check the nature of the subsoil such as sand, rocks or corals |
Pay attention to sandbanks, currents and current ditches (tidal creeks) |
Notice the changes in currents due to tidal influences |
Look out for the Lifeguard post and emergency number |
Check the wind and wind direction, wind strength. Offshore wind is dangerous. |
Check if there are any other surfers in the water and what they’re doing. |
Check if the surf is dangerous for people and/or equipment. |
|
Fitness and skills levels |
If you’re in good physical and mental health and feel fit. |
If your condition and your driving ability correspond to the conditions at the sea or on the water. |
|
When starting off |
Make sure there is sufficient depth under the fin in the water. You need a little more water depth, especially when ascending. |
Paddle in a kneeling position when starting to surf and landing. It’s easier and gives you more security. When you get up, stand in the middle of the handle area. This is where you have the most stability. |
Carry your board sideways. Never hold it between the body and the shaft! |
